mood: doomed
|
I know, I know, my doom-saying is kind of annoying. But I want to find some kind of outlet, maybe it will make me feel less sick...
I think the "compromise" bailout bill is coming through the pipe is a bad idea. A very, very, very bad idea.
A co-worker asked what I thought about the whole bailout, so I responded ( with a pretty long and inflamed response, which has not changed since the compromiseCollapse ).
It's a bad idea, mostly because it's just plain bad problem solving. We have incredibly complex "investment vehicles" propping up our economy, that we don't understand, and it seems the decision makers would rather be in denial about understanding these things than solving them. We are not solving problems. Instead of solving problems, we're just going to try to fill them with money so they don't collapse under us... But!, and this really, really irks me, we do know that these vehicles have holes all over the place, so the money will disappear.
We need to step off of the investment vehicles, and start salvaging them for parts. We need to lower the standard of living on wall street. Get them down off of this inflated market. This broken, fake, collapsing market. And this bill will keep them up there, amused at how clever they are, and bemused as to why they hadn't thought of this before. (hint: Something similar happened in 1929... Except we weren't fighting 2 wars at the time, and had a more manageable population...)
( ...Collapse )
I really should be preparing more for this doom. It doesn't look like there is turning back now. There's a whole lot of momentum, and we're careening towards the cliff... |

couple things: 1. Was laid off at LimeLife. 2. Got full time teaching gig at DeVry.
Not too worried about the LimeLife thing. Kinda saw it coming. Anyone who has asked me about the mobile industry and what I think of it (or has heard me start rambling in that direction without provocation) knows that I think it's unsustainable with carriers holding all the doors shut like they are. Heck, I kinda alluded to that 2 posts ago.
The DeVry job should give me a touch more free time, which will no doubt fill itself quite readily. But it will also give me the chance to constantly be writing software from scratch as demos for students, which I really enjoy. And that will bring me closer to a couple software goals I have in mind, the least of which is ( the subject of my last few posts.Collapse ) |

The Software Crisis is kind of tricky. It's a way of expressing that programming is hard. Depending on who you are, you might take the existence of the concept as: a factor that needs to be accounted for, or a self-defeating philosophy, or coddling of programmer ego, or just plain wrong. Agile and eXtreme programming methodologies claim to largely defeat and control this Crisis.

I've got this idea in my head that I haven't been able to articulate very well yet. It's super important to me, like, calling-of-my-life kind of important. It has to do with programming, and the internet, and artificial intelligence, and something called the software crisis, and computer literacy, and teaching, and learning, and most importantly, it has to do with merging stray human thoughts into a super consciousness that can exist alongside humanity, and help us all live more fulfilling human lives in the real world.
( ... stream of consciousness ...Collapse ) |
